Super Soap Weekend Tips Like any annual event at Walt Disney World, good planning is key to a successful time at the event and Super Soap Weekend can be overwhealming for some people, especially if it's your first year. With some research before you leave to meet your favorite soap stars, you can avoid many of the pitfalls that those new to the even can run into. We've brought a Super Soap Expert, Erin Boitet, who is a veteran of Super Soap Weekends to share her top tips for navigating the event the right way.
1. If you do not want to be in line for autographs, you do not need to get to the Disney-MGM Studios very early Saturday or Sunday. I would suggest getting to the park sometime around 2. If you are staying at a Disney resort, the Disney-MGM Studios bus will not be running any earlier then normal. Disney buses normally begin operation about an hour before the park opens. If you want to either get in line for autographs, or to be in the line for getting into the park early (to get a good spot for the stage shows or whatnot) plan another way to get to the parks in the morning. 3. If you want to eat at a full service restaurant at the Disney-MGM Studios on either day of Soap Weekend, I would suggest making reservations in advance. The restaurants are not normally full since everyone is in line for some Soap related event. Making a reservation will ensure that you are sat in a timely manner and you won’t have to waste time waiting for a table or going from one restaurant to another looking for available seats. Eating during ‘off times’ is always best in Disney World. 4. Planning in advance, or at least first thing in the morning, what events you want to go to is a good idea. You will want to get to each event early so that you can get a good spot. 5. If you do not get a fastpass for autographs, you can still see the stars. Find where they are signing autographs and sometimes you can get a quick picture of them (and even sometimes with them) as they are coming to or leaving an autograph session. 6. When waiting for the parade at night, remember that the Street Jam happens directly after the parade under the hat. Decide which one you want to have a better view for....if you are way down from the stage under the hat for the parade, you might have a great spot for the parade but you will be far back from the Street Jam. Once the parade is over, they will let everyone fill in to the street to watch the stars preform in the street jam. 7. Keep your camera ready, there is always a chance that you will see one of the stars in a restaurant or walking around the various rides! 8. If you want to ride any of the rides while you are at the Disney-MGM Studios (or you have husbands or children that will be riding the rides while you are waiting for your autographs) the lines are generally short waits. 9. If you want a shirt, don’t wait until the end of the night on Sunday to buy one. Most likely they will either be out of the size you want. My advice is to buy one the moment you enter the park...or at least very soon after if you want one. If you don’t want to carry it around all day, and you are staying at a Disney Resort, you can get the bag sent back to the resort for pick up later. 10. If for some reason you are going to the Disney-MGM Studios these days and are not interested at all in Soap Operas or the stars who play the characters, if at all possible, avoid MGM on this weekend. Yes the lines are short for the rides and it is fairly easy to make dinner reservations because everyone is out staking out a spot for the parade, however, you will be in the park with die hard soap fans screaming for their favorite heartthrob to sign their t-shirt, and that might not make for the most fun MGM experience. |
