Sci-Fi Dine-In Theater Restaurant Review

The Sci-Fi Dine-In Theater Restaurant is set up like an old drive-in movie theater. It's always dark and you sit in pseudo-cars, eat and watch old movies. Kind of nice to experience and just order something light to get you through the rest of the day. The Sci-Fi food isn't anything special, and you might wonder if the food came from the Black Lagoon and not the monster on the screen. And if you thought the food was scary, wait until you see the bill! Yowzers! The food is definitely overpriced and mediocre.

If there is one saving grace, it's the presentation. The movies, and the waiters are great. More than likely you will see the entire loop of the film at least once, if not twice or more and the presentation is what brings folks in.  While the exterior and even the waiting area are largely bland, the interior is impressively decorated.  Waiters treat the person sitting in the left seat of the front row as the "driver" and the rest as passengers who need to chip in for "gas money". Moreover, if your party is small and they put other people in the same car as you(there's 3 rows in each car) they call them "hitchhikers". Very original. Also, if you feel like splurging, go for one of the special alcoholic drinks. They put light up ice cubes in them and it makes the drinks look fantastic. Plus, the alcohol will make stomaching the bill a bit easier.

The Sci-Fi Dine-In Theater Restaurant isn't ideal for large groups or even any group that would like to see each other and talk.  The seats are two per row and each row faces the same direction, so whomever is in the first row needs to turn around 180 degrees to speak to those behind them.  And if you have more than 6 people in your group, you'll have to eat in seperate cars.  For this reason as well as the uninspiring and expensive food, I'd suggest eating elsewhere in the Studios.  While the theme of the restaurant is superb and well done, it doesn't make up for the fact the food is nothing special and the prices.  If you must eat at the Sci-Fi Dine-In Theater Restaurant to experience it, then I'd suggest a late afternoon reservation and grab some milk shakes and dessert for a snack.  It's too bad such a well designed restaurant suffers from bland and expensive food.
