The construction wall has now been pushed back, and the restrooms opened to guests. The restrooms are HUGE, similar to the legendry old Millennium Village restrooms at Epcot. The tram tour also now takes a route directly in front of the Stunt Show area (in the location of the previous Archway).

MGMStudios.Org has leanred that when the upcoming Motor Stunt Show opens in 2005, it will only be shown 3 times a day. The reason for the few showings is to allow the Backlot Tour to conduct tours through the area. Currently the Backlot Tour is in rehab for the next few months and being re-worked as a great deal of its tour route had been elimanted due to the construction of the Motor Stunt Show.

Stunt show official announced:

Disney-MGM Studios guests will be on the edge of their seats as the secrets behind Hollywood’s most astounding stunts unfold at the new Disney-MGM Studios stunt show.

Inspired by the popular Stunt Show Spectacular at Disneyland Paris, the high-octane, stunt show features specially designed cars, motorcycles and jet skis, plus special effects -- with audience members pulled into the fun. Insiders will reveal show secrets, detailing how stunts are created, designed and filmed for the movies. Filmed images are revealed on an oversized screen, illustrating how the use of different camera angles can add drama to filmed scenes.

The new show will open in 2005 and is part of a larger redevelopment of the backlot area of Disney-MGM Studios that also includes new cityscapes, adding Chicago and San Francisco to our existing New York City skyline.

Official Word:
Who's moving in on Residential Street?

The transformation taking place at Disney-MGM Studios is set to be finished in 2005. That's when we will debut an action-packed new stunt spectacular. Please note that in order to bring you this new e-ticket attraction, The Osborne Family Spectacle of Lights will not take place this year. You will get all the details in the November Mickey Monitor

July 27, 2003

All buildings on Residential Street removed.

July 18, 2003

The demolition of Residential Street is proceeding, with 2 buildings now completely removed from the site.

July 2, 2003

There was a cast event last night to mark the closing of Residential Street. The area is now fully walled off, and demolition has begun on the sets. The tram tour is now taking a new route going behind the animation buildings, and some of the props have been moved to this area.

June 28, 2003

This was on the Studios News Today. New attraction for New York area. "Stunt Show" will replace the Residential Street. Construction will start Monday (or shall I say Destruction of Residential Street). Walls will be going up Monday. The theater will be larger than Indiana Jones but smaller than Fantasmic. It is scheduled to open in 2005. Here ya go a MGM Studios.org exclusive.

from WDWMagic.
The latest twist to this project is that it now looks very likely that today and Saturday will be the last days for Residential Street, with demolition commencing on Monday in preparation for the new Motors Stunt Show. There is still no official announcement from Disney on this project, and the status of the Osborne Lights remains unknown.

June 20, 2003

Information now suggests that the stunt show preparations have just been delayed. The dilemma facing planners is what to do with the Osborne lights if residential street is removed. Current thinking (which as always changes daily!) suggests that the demolition of residential street will begin after the Osborne lights are ran this Christmas. The tram tour will then be rerouted to bypass the former residential street. Planners are also looking for ways to provide additional things to see a long the tour once residential street is removed. After this year. the Osborne lights are being considered for installation along New York Street and/or elsewhere.

from WDWMagic.com....
Just when we thought things were becoming clear with the Stunt Show moving into residential street...

The Backlot Tour has just been down for a rehab, and it was planned that during that time the tour would be re-routed to skip past residential street, leaving the path clear to begin demolition ready for the stunt show.

It now turns out that during the rehab, the route was changed 3 times, and ultimately it was left as it was still running along residential street.

So it may now be that the Stunt Show is delayed, has been relocated, or cancelled altogether.

From Screamscape :
A few more Screamscape sources have reported in this week to confirm that they were informed that the project has been approved and ground breaking will take place in the next few months. They went on to say that the Backlot Theater (old Hunchback showplace) will be torn out during this project and that the site will be incorporated into the new show.

From a better source....

A source of mine says that the Backlot Tour will be gone VERY soon... weeks to months... not sure if it is going to be gone completely, or re-routed though...January seems to be a key month.. sounds like a lot of stuff is going to be moved by then, or during then... say goodbye to residential street and the "mini-boneyard." So... it does sound like the car stunt show is going to be the new show, with a brand new arena somewhere around New York Street and Residential Street...

From WDWMagic...
To coincide with the 50th Anniversary of Disneyland in 2005, there are several plans on the drawing board for WDW, ranging from area enhancements, through to new rides and shows. MGM's possible enhancements include the addition of the Motor Stunt Show from the Walt Disney Studios at Disneyland Paris Resort. The current planned location for the new show is the area close to Catastrophe Canyon.

There are currently construction walls around the old Hunchback Stage area and also around part of the back of New York Street and the backlot. While much of this work is rehab work on the facades, it is being speculated that preparation for the Motor Stunt Show is underway.

While the Stunt Show is definitely under serious consideration by Disney, please note that it has not be given the definite go ahead.

From ScreamScape...
2004/2005 - Auto Stunt Show - Rumor - (5/16/03) Another source has confirmed to me that Disney is indeed planning on bringing the popular Stunt Show from WDS-Paris to MGM. Furthermore, they are working on repairing their damaged relationship with GM by pitching the show to them as a giant showcase for GM vehicles. The interesting thing to wonder is what effect this may have on the long-running Indiana Jones stunt show?

May 15, 2003

But as far as what is going on right now, my source also talked about another Stunt Show possibly making its way over to New York Street... OR perhaps a thrill ride of some nature.... one that would top Tower of Terror AND Rock n' Rollercoaster...

From ScreamScape...
2004/2005 - Auto Stunt Show - Rumor - (5/14/03) Is the park planning on bringing the popular new Stunt show from Walt Disney Studios Paris to it’s Florida counterpart? That seems to be the popular rumor just starting to spread throughout the park. The latest word is that several construction markers have been seen on the grounds along the Residential Street area and CMs have been ordered to clear out the houses that are used as storage for the Osborne Lights to prepare for demolition to begin.

Two rumors talk to a similiar possible new attraction
It appears that WDI might be looking to recreate the action of the Disney Studios Paris car stunt show spectacular on the New York Street at the Disney-MGM Studios (including a massive grandstand structure). Source: "My info is from a VERY reliable source".

And from Screamscape...
Park News - (4/23/03) Is a new attraction being prepared for the Studios? We’ve heard a rumor that some Imagineering folks have been taking up Bungalow space at the Studios for a rumored “2 year project”. One rumor is an all new stunt show may be in the works. Can anyone confirm any of this?
