Great Movie Ride Trivia

  • The Great Movie Ride originally began development as a entertainment pavilion for EPCOT Center. For the full story, click here.
  • The track is 1928 feet long, which is also the same year the original Chinese Theater was built.
  • The vehicles are meant to reassemble studio tram cars that give tours of Hollywood back lots.
  • There are 107 movies depicted in the finale
  • Gene Kelly inspected his AA likeness personally However, so did everyone else. This is true across all of Disney, if an AA is made of a real person, they have to come inspect it, or have a representative of their family come (IE, James Cagney and John Wayne had passed away, their family ok'd the figures.) So even Ellen DeGeneres and George Bush had to OK their own likenesses..
  • Ingrid Bergman's daughter Isabella Rosselini has brought her children to this attraction to see their grandmother in the Casablanca scene.
  • The entire Great Movie Ride attraction covers 95,000 square feet.
  • The trams in this attraction can hold approximately 70 passengers.
  • There are 59 audio-animatronic characters in the attraction.
  • In the Fantasia scene, the wizard is called Yensid. That's Disney spelled backward.
  • Originnally, the Fantasia scene was to be a third scene for the Wizard of Oz. It would have shown the tornado that brought Dorothy to Oz (and leading to the scene where the house is ontop of the Wicked Witch of the East) but in the end it was decided to switch to Fantasia. However, you can still feel the breeze from the fans that were to portray the tornado in that scene.
  • In the Singing in the Rain scene, the rain was water mixed with milk in the film but not in this scene.  The reason is to help guests see the rain better.
  • In front of the Great Movie Ride, Charlton Heston forgot the "l" in spelling his name in the "Walk of Fame", spelling it instead, "Charton".
  • There are 107 hand prints in front of the Great Movie Ride
  • The floorplan for the Great Movie Ride is the same as the famous Chinese Theater it's based upon.
  • In the Indiana Jones scene, if you look very carefully on the left side in the hieroglyphics, you can see Mickey and Donald and R2D2 and C3PO.
  • All the major animatronic characters have real human hair as wigs.
  • An original idea was to have live celebrity look-alikes instead of audio-animatronics.
  • The bandits are called Kidd Carson and Kate Durango.
  • The belt buckle worn by the John Wayne animatronic was actually worn by John Wayne.
  • In the western town across from John Wayne, there is a sign on the wall for Ransom Stoddard Attorney. This is a reference to a Jimmy Stuart/John Wayne movie The Man Who Shot Liberty Valence. Ransom Stoddard was played by Jimmy Stuart!
  • In the Emerald City scene in Oz, if you look at the Yellow Brick road, you will see that it forms the word "OZ" with one of the parts of the Emerald City.
  • In the finale, the only film to be mentioned by name is "Good Morning Vietnam".
  • As the vehicles enter Gangsterland, Mickey's feet can be seen peeking out from under the "Public Enemy" poster on the left-hand wall. Mickey's feet (yellow shoes) and tail is just under the James Cagney Public Enemy Poster. It was made to look as if a Mickey Mouse poster was there first, and the James Cagney poster was placed over it. It also appears to be a circa Mickey from that time frame.
  • In the Gangsterland scene, The license plate on Gangster Car is the St. Valentine's Day Massacre whereit was only two gangsters dressed as police raided a meeting, four men in regular clothes followed and then opened fired on the group. The men in regular clothes were lead out by the "police" in what appaeared to be them arresting the men that really opened fired.
  • In the Alien scene, one computer screen has a read out of the crew members, these crew members are the imagineers that worked on the ride.
  • Originally, only females played Bandits in the Western Scene, Males only played Gangsters.
  • When the ride first opened, playing cards on the floor in the bar with Clint had numbers on them, these were removed and cards with only the suits replaced them.
  • "The Great Moments Movie Museum" was the original name for The Great Movie Ride.
