This will be the final installment of the Star Wars Weekends edition of Why It's There, but don't overlook this hommage to the Star Wars galaxy. Last week we talked about the Theed Power Generator and so let's stay on Naboo for this week's entry. The scene that is located between Sounds Dangerous and Star Tours is a meet-n-greet area for Princess Amidala complete with real flowers and garden items that look fit for a royal occasion.

The backdrop used for this area is inspired by the Theed Royal Palace on Theed, the capital city of Naboo. This scene is a good example of the palace grounds that were shown extesively in Episodes I, II and III. The palace sits atop the edge of a cliff and it is here where the Monarch of Naboo resided. Specifically, this set is modeled after the Palace courtyard area.

Interestingly enough, the exterior design was directly inspired by the Marin County Civic Center in San Rafael, California which was designed by Frank Lloyd Wright. The building features round designs set into the hillside with characteristic blue domed roofs.
