How one man mastered Toy Story Midway Mania

Ever since Toy Story Midway Mania opened last year, everyone has been asking me and others who have ridden what our best score on the ride is (mine is 257,800) and we've even published Toy Story Midway Mania secrets to share with everyone and I'm sure that has helped many of you improve your own scores.  What if I told you that my high score or your high score pale in comparison to some who have truly mastered the ride?  What if I told you that my high score of 257,000 was half the score of what one person has accomplished? Like you, I was surprised and amazed to find someone who regularly scores over 500,000 points each time he rides and today he'll share his secrets with you!

Who is this amazing player?  And how did he get so good at the game?  Let's start at the beginning.  This person, who prefers to be called BCC, and he lives in southern California. BCC is a fan of the Disney parks and enjoyed other attractions before Toy Story Midway Mania.  His favorite attraction used to be Buzz Lightyear's Astro Blasters, where he would regularly score over 1,000,000 points each time he played.  It was that passion for shooting games that made a natural segue to the brand new Toy Story based shooting ride, "I enjoy TSMM because of how it is: A shooter ride. Once I heard about TSMM, I was so excited because it looked like it was 10 steps up from Buzz. Indeed it was. So I kept riding it over and over again. The high score board is the main reason why I ride it over and over again. There are always new scores to beat and a new month high score to set. If I get beaten, I ride again until I top that score."

After riding a few times, BCC's brother was the one who came up with the idea to take the next step in mastering Toy Story Midway Mania.  Based on their collective experience at scoring high on Buzz Lightyear's Astro Blasters, BCC's brother had an epiphany, "It was actually thanks to my brother. He noted to me that he started trying the secrets himself and told me he succeeded. I thought "Why not?" so I tried. Didn't get it right the first time off, but I managed to hit all of them overtime."

Even though BCC was talented at these sort of shooting attractions, things took time for him before he really got the hang of it.  Since BCC had school during the week, he could only ride once a week on Saturdays to practice his craft, "It took me until August 2008, 2 months after the ride opened. I was the first guest to break the 400,000 mark. I started scoring consecutive 400,000's a month later."  Just that score of 400,000 points would have been enough for me to retire on in terms of fame, but BCC wanted to do better and he continued to strive to the next point plateau and after a lot of work he finally reached a point that seemingly few, if any, have reached.  BCC scored 500,000 points on June 12, 2009 .

So what is BCC's secret to scoring so ridiculously high?  "Practice? Plenty of it. Once you master shooting quickly, you have to master moving the gun fast also. Fast shooting and fast movement are key. Difficult combination, but once mastered, you can be the best toy story player out there."  He also mentions that to really get a great score, ideally you should ride alone.  In BCC's estimation, you can still score well with another player present, but that other player can rob you of 5-10% of your potential score compared to if you had ridden alone, "I've managed to score 500,000 twice with someone sitting beside me, but it's fairly difficult to achieve. My average with a person beside me is around 460,000."

So if you have aspirations to be like BCC (or at least beat whomever you are with), his number one tip is to have a need for speed, "Shoot fast and move fast. Aim for secrets whenever you feel comfortable, but it will take a lot of practice and frustration.".  And what is the most difficult secret to unlock in the game?  BCC thinks it's at the end of the game in Woody's Roundup, "I would have to say Woody's Roundup because if your dart misses one target during the routine, it will hurt your score a lot. I've missed 4 targets once and it immediately decreased my score by 20,000. Every second is precious for that game."

You may be a bit skeptical that BCC can actually score over 500,000 points and frankly, so was I.  But below you will find video proof of BCC's amazing feat and you can be both amazed and jealous of his amazing score.
