Welcome to Ask Matt where every week I try my best to answer any question about Disney's Hollywood Studios from planning questions to “what happened to...” questions. So if you’ve got something you’ve been wondering about or simply need clarification, please feel free to email them to me (use the form below).
A recent article announced the 1 billion dollar expansion of Disney's California Adventure park. You can find the article here:
An interesting thing I pointed out and decided to research further on in the article was something I read in this paragraph:
"Just as Main Street harks back to Walt Disney's hometown of Marceline, Mo., in the early 1900s, California Adventure's new entrance will trace the footsteps of Walt Disney from when he arrived in Los Angeles in the 1920s, these people say. Similar to Disneyland's iconic castle, the redesigned park will feature a replica of Hollywood's former Carthay Circle theater, where Walt Disney premiered the movie "Snow White" in 1937."
I googled information and images on the Carthay Circle Theatre and came across your site where I found a picture of a replica of the theatre at the studios. I've been to the studios numerous times and havent even noticed this replica. Where is it located exactly? What's inside? Do you have any other pictures?
I'm sure the new California Adventure replica of the theatre will look just like it. Its fun to learn that a replica existed at the studios, I love discovering stuff like that and I'd like to take a look next time I'm at the Studios. Some of the information I've been reading on the theatre makes it sound so impressive, they say it rivaled Grauman's Chinese as one of Hollywood's most beautiful movie palaces.
Thanks,
Chris
You can find a replica of the Carthay Circle Theater on Sunset Boulevard near the Theater of the Stars where Beauty and the Beast performs. The Carthay Circle is an exact replica of the Carthay Circle at 6316 San Vicente near Carillo Avenue in Beverly Hills, Los Angeles. The replica at the Studios is home to, among other items, holiday gifts throughout the year. You may find this article helpful as well where I show you photos of the Studios' version and the original and explain the origin of the replica.
We just got back from Disney and now my son wants Mickey Mouse Macaroni. I have been told they make it, but how can I get it? Thanks. - Irene
You can contact Disney Merchandise by calling 407-363-6200. If it is in stock you could have it within 5 business days. They can order you any of the park merchandise found in the parks.
I’ve got a question about the Super Soap Weekend. In the “General Tips” it says “Refer to the times guide for the event and you can stop by events and see the celebs from just a few feet away.” My question is: Where do I find the “times guide.” I’ve been looking all over for one, but am wondering now if there’s one actually posted yet. Any help you can give would be gratefully appreciated. - EJ
The Times Guide is a small sheet of paper you receive when you enter the park that lists times of all the shows and attractions in the Studios. This will include times for regular Disney-MGM Studios attractions as well as Super Soap Weekend events on the days of Super Soap Weekend. You can pick a copy up as you enter the park as well as at many other locations all around the park (gift shops tend to have a stack).
And a correction from last week from a reader..
Matt,
I would like to clarify one point for your reader who inquired about ECV availability. The date she referenced in her question is the Sunday of Super Soap Weekend. For that event in particular, available ECVs tend to run out. I would recommend that she arrive at the park early (advertised opening that day is 8:00 am) to ensure that she gets one. - Shawn
Thanks Shawn for pointing that out. With the extra crowd you get at Super Soap Weekend, historically there have been many guests who have needed ECV's and so you'll want to be certain to get yours right when the park opens.
