Problems with this article include, but are not limited to

A. Why are Boba Fett, Admiral Ackbar, and a Tusken Raider involved

B. There shouldn't be much to shoo, bc it will be mostly models or CG

C. Anthony Daniels claims to have already done his bit for Star Tours 2.0

D. With all the investment in the Prequels and Clone Wars, why would they revert back to the Original Series for 2.0?

I sense a disturbance in the Force.

Well if you read it, you'd also note that Boba is apparently chasing the vehicle for some unknown reason. Just because Ackbar and the Tusken Raider are involved, doesn't mean that they are in the main film. . . Could be secondary characters? The story stated that Ackbar was being used to relay information to the vehicle about the pursuit.

Still, this is new information. We'll have to stand by for more.

Someone brought this to my attention yesterday and I hope it's true but I'm not getting excited until I see construction walls around Star Tours

D. Thank the maker that they revert backed to the Original Series for 2.0 instead of those God-Awful prequels.

Fixed.

Still, even though this is relatively good news, Star Wars/Tours purists (like myself) are going to be disappointed if there is not an option to ride the original version of the ride, in addition to the updated version.

Ooo, this does sound very good. I love Star Tours, but it is really showing its age.
I think that that if they do change it, they will completely remove the previous edition. I've never seen any disney renovations that give an option for the previous edition.

Time will tell, i guess

The thing is, the premise behind Star Tours would allow it to function as two separate rides as different "trips" that can be taken. That way they can leave the "Endor" trip and use this new footage as a trip to one of the other planets in the Star Wars mythos. I'm concerned that "updated special effects" would rob the attraction of its heart.

As always, I cannot get excited about what one source on the internet says about a new Star Tours. After all, in addition to 2009 marking the 10 year anniversary of The Phantom Menace, it also marks the 10 year anniversary since I first read an internet rumor about a new version of Star Tours.

Knight, your avatar is frightening on about five different levels at least.

I dunno. We'll have to wait and see. Seems logical that it would be up and running by the 25th Anniversary.

From what Im piecing together (And partial my wishful thinking) the five year plan (In time for the 25th) is:
- To have the new "Soundstage One Project" done (Whatever it is, Monsters, Inc. or otherwise)

-Star Tours 2 (Saying this is in fact being filmed)

- The removal of the hat (Imagineer comments Friday and looking at EPCOT's 25th with the removal, coincidence or not)

- Maybe one more project, say an actual rehab for GMR or Tower 5.

Now i could picture the holographic Admiral Ackbar (using some Haunted Mansion Tech to make it) and i could maybe be pushed to believe that Boba Fett is chasing after us for some reason (seems too reminisce to many other Flight simulators though...) but to have a Tusken Raider you would actually need the ship to go on Tatooine which i just don't see happening...

And than there is still the whole prequel thing. I just think 2.0 is going to be centered more on the prequels, it just doesn't add up otherwise. Only time will tell i suppose, but i think this is all a rumor for now, and that is all it's worth.

Assuming all this is true (which is a big leap to make), I won't care about the plot or the scenario or any continuity problems if Lucas writes one specific line of dialogue. All I need to be satisfied is to hear Admiral Ackbar say "IT'S A TRAP!" once and I will sing this attraction's praises for years to come. laugh.gif

I'm happy to hear about the new filming of star wars for star tours. I also heard it might be in 3-d!! But guys flight similators are out dated plus 3-d has been given to much of a ride. In my opinion the best attraction in orlando that uses 3-d is shrek. Why can't they just do something new and unique instead of using this same old technology even though it would be in 3-d.

...because new and unique would cost millions more? I agree with your points but I don't think it's in the cards right now to develop a new ride system along with the new plot.

I agree...I think we'll see a new plot (video) along with new screens, but the ride mechanism (or the guts of the ride) will remain the same.

I know Star Tours has what some people call an "Old Movie" but I like it, I prefer to call it classic! I like it whe way it is.. smile.gif

Classic? Maybe. I remember going on it the last time and being a little underwhelmed.

But the problem I thought wasn't the movie. It was the simulator.
