Allegedly, the Osborne Lights aren't showing this year, but Melissa Perry of Guest Services responded that the Osbourne Lights will be available at MGM this Christmas. She said keep the reservations.

From another site-

"Osbourne Christmas lights are gone for good!
06/04/03

Yep Heard it from the CM's that take care of the christmas decorations for the Park. The reason that the Osbourne lights are not coming back because there will be no place to put it. Oops did I let the cat out of the bag. 8^) They are taking down residential street for a new roller coaster."

*rumor*
There has been no confirmation that we will not be showing the Osborne lights this year. We are in the works of planning new ways of displaying them. There isn't a roller coaster coming in either. I'm not allowed to say what is, because we're sill negotiating, but it's not a roller coaster.

Here's some news/rumors about what's going on there...

Quote

Over the past weeks, crews have been working to move all of the Osborne lights out of storage from the facades along Residential Street, and into the former Hunchback Theatre. The Backlot Tram Tour is currently being re-routed to go behind the soundstages and near the animation building, which would then leave them clear to demolish residential street, and clear the way for the motor stunt show.

Parts of the Osborne lights are clearly visible in the shots below of the Hunchback Theatre

The photos below show some work underway on replacing some facades around New York Street.

That's good news for now.

The site I quoted from is not a very reliable source of info, but I got curious.

I hope that they do keep the lights in some way, even if they did have to move them from the Studios. I saw the original Osborne lights in Little Rock many many years ago. It is a nice thing that Jennings did for his daughter. The community (mainly his neighbors) thought it brought too much traffic to the area. They lived near a huge shopping center, and that didn't bring traffic? Guess they should have shut down the shoppping center as well. Many in the city of Little Rock who enjoyed the lights offered to buy the neighbors houses and give them to the Osborne Family but the Supreme Count ruled against it. How's that for Holiday spirit.

I'd love it if someone in my neighborhood dis their lights up like that!! I love looking at the lights :)

I'm sure the lights will be up, maybe just a little more spread out then they have been before.

I would enjoy more walking room! At the Original the most you could do was drive by.

More walking room would be awesome!! I love to see the lights, but you feel like a herd of cattle walking through, and geez, watch out if you want to stop and get pictures!

Exactly, it's very hard to stop and enjoy the lights while you are being trampled by morons in stupid glasses who just want to run through the whole display.

That sounds like that warning they give you in MuppetVision of not to wear your glasses when going into the theater and they show people being trampled :)

OK - This was on the Studios News Today. New attraction for New York area. "Stunt Show" will replace the Residential Street. Construction will start Monday (or shall I say Destruction of Residential Street). Walls will be going up Monday. The theater will be larger than Indiana Jones but smaller than Fantasmic. It is scheduled to open in 2005. Here ya go a MGM Studios.org exclusive.

Oh, Yeah - I almost forgot. It is official, no Osbourne Lights this year 2003. Not sure where or when they will start it up again since residential street will be destroyed.

That is sad that they are not going to have the lights. I know many who come in that season just for the lights.
