Starting this past week, random guests have been selected to ride Mission Space in order to provide feedback to Imagineering. One of the four ride bays has one out of ten of it's ride capsules that is ready for guest use, and this is being used during this early testing phase. The remaining nine capsules in the bay are using counterweights to balance the ride system.

Note, that this is preliminary testing to get rider feedback, it is not a public soft opening, and you cannot talk yourself into getting a ride. Selection is of a random nature, and is VERY limited in numbers. Also keep in mind we are talking about 1 pod, in 1 ride bay that is being used. While it is great news that things are progressing well, it does not mean that full soft openings are about to occur. As soon as any news on that appear, it will be published here.

In the meantime, check out the interior of one of the ride capsules!

What I would give to be one of those randomly chosen people... :)

From WDWMagic.com:

It has been recently announced by Brad Rex, Vice President of Epcot, to Epcot CMs that:

Exterior construction of MS is mostly done, and inside they are just working on timing issues with audio effects and installing the reamaining ride pods.

The Columbia tragedy will NOT be affecting MS's opening date.

MS will open late summer 2003.

I rode it about a month ago. It rocked.

It seems that every day after 4 or so they are letting guests ride it. It's not a guarantee that you will get to go on it though. They will shut it down for a bit, or the rest of the day, if they find any problems so they can fix it.

I tried to get on, but the CM that was guarding the entrance said it wasn't open to anyone that day, and then the next day it was only open in the afternoon for a CM preview. :santa:

That's when you fall back on the ol' "I want my mommy" method of getting in, insisting she's in there. :D

You know, I was reading this article over on JHM.com about how some people are saying that the ride is amazing, but so intense that it poses no reride-ability.

So after having read this article (and talking Jen (my boss) into skipping work on Friday and coming with me) I decided to (rather than wait for Aug. 15) go try it.

My opinion? IT ROCKED. TOTAL RERIDE-ABILITY. I definitely recommend it.

It's beyond amazing.

I totally disagree with the people who say it's too "intense" it's an awesome ride! And with the no rereideability people, I've been on it several times and it's not even open yet...just wait til I can go whenever I want.... Silly people what are they thinking

I rode it twice while I was down there and loved it. The ride is so great and the effects and everything are just amazing. The waiting area, the post show area, and the gift shop are all great too. Overall its totally amazing!!!

Hey all,

I finally got around to making the M:S ads available online. For those interested the link is below. All five ads that aired Aug 15th are together in one movie. 19.9Mb file 2min 49sec

Enjoy.

Whoa! Thanks Jason for providing the movie. The movie was awesome and really excites me about the ride itself.

I had made a 56K version for those on phone lines but it did not do it justice that small.
