Our first full day on the boat started off with us getting up bright and early for breakfast. We decided to have our breakfast at Parrot Cay, which is served buffet style. I really didn't like the food. I found it bland and "mass produced". After breakfast we went out to the deck and watched the ship pull into port.
The weather was overcast, but certainly warm enough to wear shorts. Our gameplan for the day was to go to the Atlantis resort for a day excursion. Of course, when we bought the excursion we assumed it would be sunny but it turned out to be not so. We disembarked, which was easier than I thought it would be, were rounded up and put on buses. Instead of going directly to the resort, our bus drivers decided to give us a tour of the city, which in reality ended up being interesting not because of what they showed us, but because it was fun to see everyone drive on the other side of the road and then decide if you could drive in Nassau without getting into some sort of wrong lane accident. The tour itself was somewhat interesting but by the end everyone really just wanted to go to the beach. So after getting off the bus, our guides decided to give us yet another tour; this tour was of Atlantis. I could have just as easily been given a resort map and a finger pointing to the general direction of the beach.
After another 20 minutes or so, we were finally let loose on the beach. We had free range to do anything in the resort except use the pools. For my parents, it was finally an opportunity to gamble as the resort has a casino. My father had been complaining about the lack of casino on the Disney ship so the prospect of gambling finally made him a happy camper. We spent the rest of the morning on the beach, had an early lunch at the place where we could eat lunch for free and then decided to split up. I wanted to go into Nassau and buy stuff, my parents wanted to waste their money gambling and my sisters wanted to pray for sunlight.
So I left Atlantis, took the bus back to the ship(this time sans tour) and went to my stateroom to change and get my wallet. I left the ship and then went into Nassau. It was at this point I really wished I had spent my entire day in Nassau and not wasted my time at Atlantis. Nassau is a nice little town where if you've got money to spend can be alot of fun. I was looking to buy two things: Bahemian booze and Cuban cigars. I eventually found a little cigar store that sold me 3 cigars for $25 and then I was off to get some liquor. Lots of folks buy regular liquor you can get in the US because its cheaper in Bahamas. Personally, I want something I can't get at home so I wanted some Bahemian liquor. The problem with buying liquor you've never had is you have no idea if it's any good and could possibly waste money on bad liquor. Luckily for me, every liquor store offered free shots to try the merchandise out. After about 3 stores, I was one "happy" camper. Eventually I bought two bottles from this one store on the condition they threw in a free can of the local beer.
I made it back to the ship, booze and contraband in hand and dropped it off in the stateroom. The rest of the family was still out so I decided to go grab something to eat on deck 9 so headed up there but on the way over noticed something odd.....sunlight! I quickly threw off my shirt and dove onto the nearest deck chair and enjoyed 30 minutes of sunlight. Afterwards the clouds came back out so I went to go get food and hope for more sun. When I came back with food, I found my sister hoping for sun also. So I ate my food, and then promptly passed out on the chair while waiting for sun.
Before dinner me and my sister went to see The Incredibles. We had seen it allready but needed something to do before dinner. That night we had dinner at Animator's Palate and the food was better and service quicker. I also began doing what seemed to be the thing to do on a cruise; order multiple entrees and such since the price is still the same. I also noticed that there was less swaying and such but that could be of course due to the ship just going slower.
After dinner I was spent and decided to go to bed as to get some rest before Castaway Cay
Things I Learned
- Exploring Nassau is probably more fun than beach excursions, especially since you'll be going to the beach at Castaway Cay.
- You can get alot of free shots at the liquor stores.
- The line to get back onto the boat was not half as bad as I thought it would be.
Tomorrow: Castaway Cay!

-The line on the boat gets really long around lunch time when people have the choice of a free meal or paying for one on shore and in the last hour before the ship leaves port.
-That women in port get offered to get their hair braided at least a dozen times in 15 minutes.
-Shopping is fun.
