Unless WDI has come up with a way to dramatically increase refurb time, the MK Space will probably not be getting the same treatment that Disneyland's received. The Disneyland Space Mountain was down for over 2 years when they installed the brand new track and gave it the super upgrade treatment.

Interesting historical fact about Space Mountain. It was originally designed for Disneyland at Walt's behest by John Hench, one of the 3 artists who helped build Disneyland. As you go through Disneyland's queue, there's a reference to Captain J. Hench '77(the year Disneyland's version opened).

I imagine all that will happen during the refurb is that the queue line will be updated and some of the track pieces the Imagineer's feel need replacing will be changed.

After riding the DL Space MTN, I was totally all for changing the WDW Space MTN to match DL's. But I dunno know...I love the WDW version a lot. I've ridden it so many times that I just have such great memories and fun times riding it over the years. As soon as I enter the queue at WDW and hear the music, it brings back memories of all the fun past times running through the queue area during e-ride nights and then EMH nights! So hopefully the fix it up but don't totally change it. But if they do...they do...

So it sounds like this is not the dramatic new track and such that Disneyland got in 2005.

From what I've heard, it's a replacement track... no new cars, sound, etc.


Still a big job, however... rebuilding it from scratch inside the cramped building.

I do hope the refurb/improve the entry queue area. Those photos of the universe are looking a bit ragged....

Well I went nuts in there the other day taking photos. Not leaving it to chance. Never do when it comes to referbs nowadays. Honestly, they can change whatever they want, just as long as they leave the list of locations at the beginning of the queue. Comic gold.

Going tomorrow to MK to ride SPace Mountain and TTA before the long refurb, I think I'm going to miss the TTA more than Space because is such a great place to just sit and relax and still be entertained. "Now arriving final destination, rocket tower plaza station" it will be missed during the long hot summer months.

I too will miss TTA more on my upcoming SWW trip than Space, though part of that is because I do have Disneyland's Space Mountain.

Yeah, we took final (until they re-open) rides on both SM & TTA Thursday afternoon. TTA (a.k.a. People Mover - from the old days) will be missed during the refurb....I enjoy it probably more than Space Mountain. Never a line & nice relaxing ride with great views of the park. "Please keep all forward facing tentacles...."

Although this topic was revived...unnaturally, I was curious I have heard a lot of mention of the queue line upgrades. I really kind of enjoyed the prior line, particularly the music. Anyone hoping they don't change that too much?

It's been a while since someone updated this. I believe SM is going through soft openings right now. Photos and videos have surfaced of the newly refurbished SM, what are your thoughts? Has anyone been over there to ride it yet?

I really thought more was going to be done. It was rumored there would be new trains with two seats in a row, but I guess the old trains were just refurbished as well. It's nice to see most of the old theming still. It's really cleaned up and looks nice.

I rode it Saturday evening and honestly, I'm not impressed. The cars are not that different, maybe just a little more padding. Still not comfortable for really tall or plus sized people. There is an on ride photo, nothing spectacular and while the video game is fun it's only a small part of the queue. Most of the queue is after the video game and it is dark & stuffy. It was a typical back and forth through the rows queue with little to look at except for the people around you. I will say the ride seems a lot smoother and I didn't feel all banged up at the end like I did in the past.

I'll be interested to hear what a diehard fan of the ride thinks, because I was not really a fan to begin with. I was hoping the rehab would help me like the attraction more.... which it didn't. It just moved it from a ride I refused to ride to one that I will do if the people I am with want to go on it.
