Quote

Some apparent technical problems with Fantasmic's mountain mean that Sorcerer Mickey is no longer able to appear on the top of the mountain for the finale of Fantasmic. Since Saturday night, a revised version of the show has been used, with Traditional Mickey now appearing at the bottom of the mountain at the point where Sorcerer Mickey would normally appear at the top of the mountain. Traditional Mickey stays on-stage at the bottom of the mountain and performs both the Sorcerer Mickey role and the very last scene as Traditional Mickey.

Fantasmic has been hit with numerous technical problems of late, with the dragon appearance failing on many occasions, missing pyrotechnics, and lighting issues throughout the show. Fantasmic is scheduled to go down for a refurbishment from January 9 2012 to February 12 2012, where it is hoped many of these items and the Sorcerer Mickey appearance can be addressed.

Do you happen to have any photos of the new ending?

Now that I think about it, when we were there on 9/30 he didn't end on the mountain top. I thought something was weird. I'll see if Tim took any pictures of it.

When we saw the show at the end of August they had lighting problems. We sat over to the left side, but realized that the images were not displaying on the water screen. We had to quick run over the right where we could find a seat.

no, sorry. it's really just mickey down in the low spot that he ends at, instead of being up at the top of the set. he still does the hand motions.

On a positive note, for the first time in I don't know how many years, we saw all the torches lit on the canoes the last time we saw a few weeks ago!!!

Saw Fantasmic! last night, it was my daughters b-day and she chose to go to DHS after school. The show went off without a problem other than the canoe's torches not working, at the end it's just Mickey at the bottom of the mountain with extra lasers coming from the top, at the moment when Sorceror Mickey is supposed to magically come from the top and change into regular Mickey at the bottom they had a full laser effect that was actually pretty cool, the whole stadium is lit in green laser. If you didn't know that Sorceror Mickey is supposed to be at the top you wouldn't have missed it.

I was at the Oct. 23 late show with the whole Pixelmania crew, so photographically the show was covered like a blanket. I had a feeling that something was different, but couldn't put my finger on it. Here are a couple of shots of the substitute Mickey. Click on the photos to see the full-size versions on Flickr.

Thanks. If you look at the top-right corner of the second shot, you can see some sparks from the fireworks that normally shoot off over Sorcerer Mickey. (They're easier to see in the full-size version.)

And looking at that photo, I see a spotlight beam shining on Mickey, made visible by the smoke. I think I'll see if I can re-crop it to emphasize the beam for what will hopefully be a cool-looking shot.

Sorcerer Mickey is like the "it" moment for me in this show and I'm sorry to hear about all the problems its having right now. Hopefully the refurb time will get the show back to normal and dare I hope that we get the DL version of the dragon?
