Our source informs us that Star Tours will close on September 8. This is earlier than announced by former Disney Parks and Resort Chairman Jay Rasulo at last yearís D23 Expo, but not unexpected. Itís also scheduled to take place after Celebration V, which takes place in Orlando this year, ends in mid-August.
The anticipated upgrade for Star Tours (aka Star Tours 2.0) features a 3D film (for which D23 Expo-goers were treated to a sneak peek) and reported Ďmultiple destinationsí for the Star Tours Travel Agency. Initial rumors had it closing post-Star Wars Weekends in 2010 and pre-Star Wars Weekends in 2011. Our source gives us a scheduled re-opening date of May 20, so thatís cutting it pretty close!

This is why I feel that Star Tours 2.0 will have WAY too much CGI.

I'll take it a step further and say surprising, but not unexpected, and probably not the worst idea. If you want it to open again before SWW 11, let's go with May 20th as a solid "MUST BE FINISHED BY" date, everything has to be finished by March 20th, because the cast will have to be trained/re-trained (Disney Policy is if a Cast member doesn't work at the location in over 6 months they will have to be completely retrained, so even if it is exactly the same from a cast Operation side, they all have to train again), it will have to go through Previews (Cast, Season pass, and Soft Opening) and will have to close again for a few weeks to fix all the bugs they find in this. So Imagineers will have a solid 6 months to play with it with this new schedule.

Do keep in mind though, the time frame mentioned at the D23 Expo, if i remember right, was directly geared towards Disneyland, so it's possible they will go with the announced schedule and DHS will get the ride first, bumping up the attendance for SWW 11 for all the California Disney buffs wanting a sneak peak...
