It seems even more ludicrous now that "Song of the South" is rumored to be on the 2006 DVD release list.
The rename of Dixie Landings was at least in part due the word Dixie conjuring images of the old South and slavery. Up until now, "Song of the South" has not been released due to its depiction of these same things. So, if they really do release it, then the two events seem to contradict one another.
Personally, I think the movie should be released. Trying to hide the fact that slavery once existed in the U.S. doesn't seem like a good idea to me. As a wise man once said, "Those who refuse to learn from history are doomed to repeat it". We should all recognize what was done to the slaves and the native American people so that we never let that kind of mistreatment happen again to anyone.
