I just read this blurb about a new animated Disney film that is starting production. Has anyone heard about this? Kristin Chenoweth, who is now starring in the Braodway musical Wicked, will voice one of the characters. So I imagine with her lovely voice, it's a return to the musical format.

*******
....Wicked witch Kristin Chenoweth is up for a role as another fairy tale diva in the upcoming Walt Disney animated film "Rapunzel: Unbraided," possibly featuring songs by Caroline, or Change composer Jeanine Tesori, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

The trade magazine purports that the Broadway blonde would voice the long-locked, tower beauty opposite film's "Legally Blonde" actress Reese Witherspoon. Glen Keane (supervising animator "Tarzan" and "Beauty and the Beast") is set to direct the project.

"Rapunzel: Unbraided" reportedly follows the modern-day fairy tale of a girl (Witherspoon) and boy thrown into the world of the title character filled with ogres, fairy tale characters and, yes, witches.

Chenoweth ends her reign as Glinda the Good in Wicked July 18. The actress will be seen on the big screen in the upcoming films "The Pink Panther" and "Bewitched."

Well so far, I'm happy to hear they are returning to the musical format. I wonder who they are getting to do the music/lyrics?

I like everything except for the "modern day take on an old story". It never works. Just do rapunzel like they did Beauty & the Beast, Aladdin, etc.

I'm not thrilled about that either, but I am trying to keep an open mind.

I'll try to keep an open mind, I remember I was skeptical about this play in my theatre class called "Into the Woods". I thought I wouldn't like it because it took classic fairy tales and told what happened after "Happily Ever After." Actually, it turned out to be the only play in the class I really enjoyed.

I've seen that play too. The annoying yet catchy song "Into the woods...into the woods!". That's more of a lampoon of fairy tales so I think thats what made it bearable.

Kristin Chenoweth is amazing though, she played Marian in The Music Man with Matthew Broderick (sp?). And although i haven't seen wicked she sounds great on the soundtrack so i can't wait till this hopefully the script is good.
