During ESPN The Weekend, Disney's Endurance Series will introduce the ESPN The Weekend 5K on February 28. The race will include special appearances by ESPN talent, and a portion of every entry fee will benefit the V Foundation for cancer research. Kids races are also offered. More information and registration is available at disneyenduranceseries.com

The race is Saturday, February 28, 2009 at 7:00 am. I'm tempted to register for the race. :study:

I might do it too even though the ER doc warned me... I like to live on the edge :rambo:

Is there any event you would suggest attending for this weekend, or is it a good time to hit the water parks?

If you have kids (especially kids between the ages of 4-16), definitely hit the sports zone area that's between Rock 'n Roller Coaster and Tower of Terror. There's all sorts of activities for kids to do there....I only wish I was young enough to do them all!

Personally, I loved the Baseball Tonight live discussions they do where the panel of Baseball Tonight takes questions from the audience. Also, Stump the Schwab and DreamJob are fun to watch.

Well, I'd love to go to ESPN the Weekend and to run the race this year, but with a newly hatched kid, it doesn't look feasible. Hopefully next year I'll get to go and possibly run.

If I went, I'd have to get up early and watch a live Mike & Mike taping. And seeing the Baseball tonight crew would be great. I'd love to get a picture with Peter Gammons and talk some Pearl Jam with him. (He's a big fan of the band, believe it or not.)

Matt - mark your calendars: we'll do the ESPN 5k in 2010.

So advice for ESPN weekend...

Is it better to go early to the Studios do some of the fun "sporty" things and leave around mid-day? or... come later and stay through Fantasmic?

Before I found out about the race, this was going to be our day in MK and then we were going to come to the studios in the evening for Fantasmic. I believe this is the only night they show Fantasmic while we are there.

Obviously, if my husband or I do the race, we'll be there in the morning; I just want a plan if we don't do the race.

Thoughts???

Well, your timing in the day depends on what you want to see. If you want to "do it all" and experience all the events, then arriving early is your best bet because some events and some athletes only appear once per day. Generally, the ESPN Zone with all the games and such are least crowded early in the morning and around lunch time.

I'd love to do this race, but with 5 trips in 2008 and 4 planned in 2009....No chance. A 5K is more my speed than a half or full marathon.

So, who is doing the race &/or will be at the Saturday Morning ESPN Weekend festivities?

I will be there, but my husband will join Team Heartattack! He's never done a Disney race, so I figured I would "take one for the team" and sit this one out. The kids and I will cheer the runners on!!! Then we'll hit the ESPN Zone.

I'll be at ESPN the Weekend. I thought about running, started training and then remembered how much I hated running :thumleft:

By "training" do you mean you actually ran or put on the duds, hooked up the i-pod and thought,"You know, a good cold beer would really hit the spot." :D

Awesome! We can have a "beverage" as we cheer on the runners @ 7am! I do believe anything w/ OJ is acceptable before noon.

Does anyone know what time you can get into the park the morning of ESPN 5K, if no one in your party is doing the race? Just in case my other half bails on the race (I think he just wants to beverage w/Matt and me,) I want to let the kids do the sports zone when it's not crowded.

Kristen

We leave in 12 days...I hope it's warm, I'm sooooo tired of the cold!

If it's not an EMH morning, then the park will open at 9am, and if it is an EMH morning, then it will open at 8am to resort guests.

And this weekend has been gorgeous (highs in the low 80's and plenty of sunshine) so hopefully more of that will be here when you come down :D
