The American Film Institute (of which I'm a member) agrees with you. I joined this year, so my apologies for speaking in the past tense about the Institute.
Back in 2000, we did the list of the 100 Best Comedies of all time, and the 80s dominated the list with 23 titles. From "Good Morning, Vietnam" at number 100 to "Tootsie" at number 2, a great variety of 80s comedies appeared on the list.
