Just announced as part of Disney's 'Summer Nightastic', the Tower of Terror will go down for refurb for updates to be ready for this summer, including new effects and drop sequence.

Quote

The Twilight Zone™ Tower of Terror welcomes “drop-ins” this summer with even more pulse-racing surprises. New lighting effects and the addition of a new drop sequence, created especially for “Summer Nightastic!”, will bring unexpected frights to guests who step into that infamous service elevator. If they dare.

I hope it's back up by the trip I'm hoping to take in mid/late June. Really hate for the kids to miss it and see the differences between the one out here in California and the one in Florida.

I thought the drop sequences were random now.

They are going to be made MORE random? LOL

Are these permanent changes or just for "Summer Nightastic?"

Well, read somewhere else that everything is scheduled to be up by early June, so there's a good chance we'll get to see it all when we make our trip later in June.

Awesome news! I hope they upgrade the sound system a little bit. The sound in Paris is soo crisp and clean. I never noticed that WDW needed an upgrade until I rode in Paris. Can't wait to see some of the new drop effects. This ride has sooo much shelf life.

According to Disney Marketing person, the changes include "glow in the dark, light up effects".

It sounds to me like these changes are only for the summer, but that was just the impression I got from hearing some of the talk from Disney. Also, it will be ready "early June 2010".

This is certainly welcomed news. I wonder how you will know the difference between the new drop sequences versus the current drop sequences?

For what it's worth, some of Disneyland's Summer Nighttastic offerings from last year still appear regularly in the park.

Last year's big offerings were the new Maleficent dragon in Fantasmic, the updated MSEP (coming this year to MK), "Magical" fireworks show, and a little light show in the fountains by Pixie Hollow. While the Rivers of America is being refurbed right now, the new Maleficent has been a part of the show ever since the much awaited debut, and the Pixie Hollow light show continues to run at nights.

I wouldn't be very surprised if some of the offerings for WDW continue. At the very least, I could see the Tower of Terror stuff running through October since WDW starts Halloween practically before Labor Day.

I tend to agree. I'd be more surprised if after say labor day, it was all taken away.

I think things like the Tower of Terror enhancements will last beyond the summer (or at least through Halloween). Fireworks and the MSEP will probably run through the end of summer. I read elsewhere that MSEP will be at WDW next summer as well, but after that the contract returns it to Disneyland.

While I love Spectro, I will also be glad to see an old favorite when they bring MSEP back. Also can't wait for the ToT and MK fireworks! again

Has anyone heard anymore about when TOT is going down? It's nearly May and nothing has come out yet. My trip is coming up and I'm hoping it will be up by then, or not down yet.

I haven't heard a peep about it, which leads me to thinking perhaps a rehab will not be needed. In theory, the new drop sequence is just computerized so it would be like loading a new program. That being said, I'd have thought they'd need a few days to test things out.

Being from California, I'm actually disappointed that the MSEP will be there when I take my nephews in June. We've all see it as DEP in DCA a number of times. This will be the kids first trip to WDW and I really would have liked for them to have gotten to see Spectromagic.

I'm also a bit leery of the changes to Tower of Terror. I've told the kids how much better the one in Florida is than the one in California. I'm hoping that the changes don't detract from it.

I can understand your worries but I'm hoping the changes will be a nice addition for a little while to keep things fresh.
