I've read that Disney has a park information service that is delivered via the Nintendo DS portable gaming system. We're planning our 2008 SWW trip and I was wondering if anyone has used the system? If so, can we use it with our own DS or do we have to use rental systems from the park? What does the service actually do? How much does it cost? Any information appreciated! Thanks. See everyone at SWW Weekend #1.

They were running trials of the system on their machines. I haven't heard whether they're still doing it or not.
Disneyland - a people trap run by a mouse.

Welcome to Studios Central joedom!

I was under the impression the Nintendo DS system in use in the parks is still in the testing phase, but I could be wrong. According to this article, you have to rent a DS (can't use your own).

Are you planning on attending our private dinner event occuring during weekend 1 of SWW?

Thanks for the reply and information. I'll look into the Dinner Package for Sunday - SWW #1. If I understand correctly, that's lodging and dinner - no tickets to the park, right?

Correct, although you can purchase tickets as well if you need them and the tickets are offered at a great discount compared to what they cost from Disney directly.

Hope all went well with the dinner. We had to change plans and are now heading down next week, with plans to be at SWW on Friday, June 20th.

Matt, we're here. Trip plan:

6/16 - Arrival / Downtown Disney
6/17 - Epcot, Hollywood
6/18 - Magic Kingdom
6/19 - Typhoon Lagoon / TBD
6/20 - Hollywood Studios for SWW
6/21 - Animal Kingdom / TBD
6/22 - Departure

If you're plans coincide with mine, sure...it'd be nice to meet you. I have my Treo phone with me. Feel free to e-mail me your phone number and I'll call to coordinate. I'll e-mail you my cell number. Text message might work best because of the noise level at the parks!

Unfortunately it doesn't look like our schedules will line up (I'll be in the Studios on Sunday). Enjoy the rest of your vacation!

Have there been any recent signs of Nintendo DS systems being tested?

It would certainly seem to work well with the deceased (or soon to be deceased) PAL Mickey project. A great deal of resources seems to be spent these days broadening Disney's electronic reach, and given their recent work with DS games (Spectrobes 2 was just released) they appear to be allied strongly with Nintendo.

I haven't seen or read anything about the program in the recent past

The new system where they can do it on your cell phone comes in soon, that probably replaced the nintendo idea.

"An agreement between Verizon and Disney means guests will be able to use their mobile phones in the parks to receive services such as up to date information on parades and rides."

I can't imagine this being the only option since Steve Jobs (Mr. Apple) is a member of Disney's board. Wouldn't the iPhone be a useful tool to help one around the parks? I bet Apple/Disney are working this alternative.
