I don't like where the hat is at all. I enjoyed seeing the theatre when you walk in, instead of this huge blue hat. I just think it should have never been built. But that's just my opinion. :-)

I agreed with you when it first was built but I've changed my mind because the park was lacking an icon. Before the hat, you could argue that GMR, Tower or the water tower were the park icons but now its the hat, without a doubt.

I was under the impression that the Water Tower was always MGM's Icon until the Hat came along. I surely have never seen TOT being used as the Icon. I have seen the GMR, but the Water Tower was always shown more.

I think the water tower ended up being the icon but it was never as official as the icons of the other 3 parks. But I've seen GMR as the park icon as well, just because of its location at the center of the park.

The water tower used to be the icon. I have numerous old disney bags, or gifts i got there that have the watertower icon for it. that's how it became so 'famous.'

The Earfel Tower used to the icon because it's a replica of the one Walt built at the Walt Disney Studios in Burbank in 1939, and the Disney-MGM Studios (I'm trying to get used to saying that) is supposed to be the FL counterpart to WDS-CA.

Yes, the water tower was the official icon before the hat was built.

I imagine many of the buildings, including the water tower, have to be built according to building code and I'm sure that code makes many buildings resistant to hurricanes.

I actually like the location of the hat. It is the first thing you see when you enter the park and I was never fond of the Chinese theater anyway. I like how the real one looks in Hollywood but not at MGM.

Even on the new guide map it blocks the Chinese Theatre.
