Depends on what's going on. I haven't heard of a lot of Disney sites organizing meets that day, but nothing says WDW's 40th Anniversary like Disney's Hollywood Studios!

Planning on being in MK on 10/1. Just seems really cool to me and want to take in many "original" attractions. I know its not official and kinda geeky but its one of those things that I can look back and say "hey I was there". Kinda like being at the 1996 Olympic Opening Ceremonies

my husband & I will be there...it might be fun to do a dessert party at MK or Studios. Currently they said they weren't booking for October,but I was going to call back tomorrow, the CM seemed a little confused. If any of you are interested I'd be happy to plan it...

Later that night my husband & I(I think) are heading over to Epcot for the Wine & Dine party.

ConGaloosh is going on that weekend as is Lou Mongello's 40 hour live broadcast from WDW, Project XL -the World at 40 and Foodie Fest so I'm not sure yet when I'll be where but definitely plan to be in the parks all weekend. It's also the first weekend of Food & Wine at EPCOT.

ConGaloosh is now a free event with some fun events planned, an Adventurers pub crawl, Saturday night meet & Greet with former Adventurers Club cast members and a bunch of other fun stuff!

I'm not so sure. I mean, 99% of guests in WDW will have no clue it's WDW's 40th anniversary. Now if Disney does hold some sort of ceremony, then perhaps you'll have a greater influx of guests. But I'm not convinced MK will draw guests like it does on July 4 or New Years Eve when many guests feel they have to be at MK.

I was sad that there was no announcement at D23 of any 40th anniversary plans for WDW. I'm planning on being there that day but if nothing major happens, I'll head over to see Fantasmic at the studios. I like Magic Memories and You but Fantasmic > Wishes

Just an update, and this is complete rumor but on todays Disney Park blog they talk about MK 10cennial, and one of the questions from a person is if there will be any celebrations for this years 40th. Response: Hi Lauren. I’m told from my sources over at Magic Kingdom Park that there are fun surprises planned, but that they will stay a surprise until October 1.

Well they have extended park hours til midnight and added a MSEP at 10. Hopefully this is a good sign and its more than a Wishes Tag added on

Not sure what they mean by surprises, but I hope a lot of them happen during the day since a good number of people will be attending the Wine & Dine races and post race party at EPCOT that evening.

Magic Kingdom to mark 40 years with festivities Saturday

The Magic Kingdom will celebrate its 40th birthday with a parade of costumed characters, fireworks and special merchandise on Saturday.

The parade will begin at about 9:45 a.m., going from the Main Street Train Station to Cinderella Castle. The characters will gather there alongside Walt Disney World President Meg Crofton and cast members with 40 years of Disney World experience.

A ceremony will include memories from the past four decades, a sing-along with the Dapper Dans barbershop quartet, singers, dancers and daytime pyrotechnics.

A one-day-only commemorative T-shirt will be sold, and a selection of artists who have created limited-edition pieces will be at the theme park to sign autographs.
The evening's presentation of "Wishes" will be expanded to include perimeter fireworks usually only fired during special, after-hours events.

Park hours on Saturday will be 9 a.m. to midnight. The weekend also marks the beginning of this year's Epcot International Food & Wine Festival.

We plan to be there before 8am, my husband will drop us off at the Contemporary and we'll walk to the main entrance (he has work at DHS). Now I'm debating on getting a spot at the Hub (Partner's Statue), facing Main Street to get a better view of the "parade" and then just watch the presentation from there, or get closer to the castle stage for the presentation but not be able to see the parade as it's coming down. It seems that it'll just be Meg C. talking and then the singing and dancing, I might tell Gustavo to grab a spot on one of the benches and then just stand up on it for the presentation (as you know I'm not the tallest person )

After that my son and I are planning on going to Epcot for Food and Wine and coming back later around 5pm to MK.

Well, the WDW Celebrations Project XL - The World at 40 group is meeting in front of MK at 7 am so I suspect it's gonna be a madhouse. I'm thinking I'm gonna try to get a better spot for the parade rather than a prime spot to see Meg C, some 40 year CMs and the singers/dancers. While I'm sure the stage show will be cool, I'm a hoping the parade will be amazing.... @Yulilyn - do you want to meet up and I could try to save a bench if I get there before you? while I'm not really tall, I'm not super short either and should be able to see the stage from the Hub.
