There is a new documentary film set to be released that will cover Disney's animation renaissance of the late 80s/early 90s titled "Waking Sleeping Beauty". It was created by the producer of Beauty and the Beast. The film will be in theaters on March 26. Watch the trailer on Apple's site: http://www.apple.com...sleepingbeauty/

You can catch a review of the film here (spoilers): http://www.slashfilm.com/2009/09/06/movie-...leeping-beauty/

This sounds like an interesting film to watch. About the only quibble I have is that I think the title is confusing a lot of people because it references a classic Disney animated film, but has nothing to do with the film it references and deals instead with films made 30+ years later.

It is confusing, but I understand the metaphor. The "waking up" means that there was a renaissance in Disney's animation, that harkens back to the Sleeping Beauty-quality.

Yeah, the metaphor makes sense. That 2nd golden age was built on wildly successful fairy tales, which the company hadn't done since Sleeping Beauty. I've just seen a few people that read the title and instantly assume it's about the film Sleeping Beauty, as opposed to the reawakening of Disney animation.

I'd love to see it, but it looks like a very limited release at this time. You can see the schedule and a bunch of clips at http://www.wakingsle...eautymovie.com/
