On our most recent Walt Disney World vacation, we celebrated my daughter's third birthday. For a special treat, I had the pleasure of taking her to the Perfectly Princess Tea Party at the Garden View Lounge in Disney's Grand Floridian Resort.

This is a special tea party hosted by one of Princess Aurora's magical friends. About half-way through the tea, Princess Aurora joins the Tea Party, as well! I had done much research about the Tea Party before we went and so I knew it was for 3-11 year-olds. Even though my daughter was going to be among the youngest, I still decided to do it since it was her birthday.

Throughout my research, I had read that the girls are encouraged to come dressed as their favourite Disney Princess and so my daughter wore her Belle dress that she received for Christmas. Every girl there was dressed as a princess except one! I felt so badly for her as she came in her Park wear. While everyone, of course, is welcome and still has a good time, I'm sure that little girl would have felt a bit more comfortable if she was a little princess, too. Please make a mental note if you are planning to take your daughter. Even if you don't own a Disney Princess dress (and don't intend on buying one!), even a fancy sundress would surely take the experience up a notch for her!

The Tea Party begins with Rose Petal (Princess Aurora's friend) crowning each little girl, thus making her a princess. Another mental note: no need to bring your own crown! My daughter and I were then led to our tables where a Princess Aurora doll was waiting for my her. I knew this was coming as it's part of the package, but she was thrilled! We were brought our snacks and tea. They even had special "apple flavoured" tea for the little girls! The girls were asked to place their napkins on their laps and a special bracelet from Princess Aurora fell out! Rose Petal proceeded to tell the story of Sleeping Beauty and sing songs, while trying to involve all of the little girls.

The girls were then asked to join Rose Petal in the centre of the room and sing and sign "Hail to the Princess Aurora". I'm not quite sure what the significance of the sign language was, other than to educate the girls on another way to communicate? The older children got it but the younger ones didn't. While they were entranced (or confused) by the sign language, Princess Aurora came up behind them and surprised them all! She then led them in a parade around the dining room. Next was time for cake and a special meet and greet with the Princess herself. She came to visit each little girl at her table and brought her a rose. Once dessert was done, the mini princesses paraded through the lobby of the Grand Floridian and ended up with a photo shoot by a Disney's PhotoPass photographer (photo not included).

The whole point of this Tea Party was to make the little girls feel pampered and grown-up, and Disney definitely succeeded in doing this. Would I suggest this for the youngest of the age group? Probably not. If this is your only visit to Walt Disney World in the foreseable future, and your daughter just happens to be three, then by all means, take this opportunity! My daughter really did enjoy it. If, however, you will be back to the World in a year or two, I would save this experience for when your daughter is a little bit older. Why? Rose Petal's story-telling went on a little too long to keep my daughter interested in the story. The sign language was just way too difficult for my daughter to follow. While my daughter loves to sing, she was really too young to sing along with the songs that Rose Petal was singing. Please don't get me wrong: my daughter LOVED this Tea Party – I just think she would have loved it just a little bit more if she could have participated more fully!
