This is sad, but the Lights of Winter (the Christmas lights that connect Future World to World Showcase in EPCOT) will not be displayed this year. It looks like they may never return. Apparently a gospel choir group will be performing near the EPCOT Christmas tree.

I'm sad to see this display go. It was one of my favorites. I'm even more disappointed in the replacement (gospel choir). I hope they replace the lights with something better in the future.

I think these cuts are getting a little too rediculous; too much too fast. I know Disney is trying to make their way in a tough economy, but couldn't they have waited to purchase Marvel for $3 billion dollars instead of some of these serious cuts in the parks.

On the Disneyparks Twitter account it makes mention that the reason for the removal of Lights of Winter was due to outdated bulb technology. A pretty lame excuse in my opinion. With Siemens being a park sponsor and Disney's brilliant Imagineers I'm sure they could have worked through the technology and brought the lights back.

The only lamer excuse could have been "because of guest demand", but this is pretty darn lame. I'd have had more respect for them if they said "We're trying to be fiscally responsible in these tough times and save some money" but instead went for the absurd response.

I wont post about how the Lights of Winter are a pinnacle of Disney parks and the reason I go to Epcot during December, but it has become a staple of the event and its abrupt departure along with a number of other recent cuts too numerous to list here, leave a very sour taste in my mouth.

This cut REALLY upsets me. First the County Bears Jamboree Holiday Show was eliminated maybe 2 or 3 years ago and now the Lights of Winter???? And the lame excuse of outdated technology???? I'm no light specialist nor electrical engineer but it seems to me they're able to maintain the technology on other holiday lights that have been there for many years so why not the Lights of Winter? Obviously that's not the real reason. Walking through the arches of the The Lights of Winter display on the way to the Candlelight Processional ws always so magical. They will be dearly missed......
