I pulled out my copy of the 1998 edition of Walt Disney World Resort A Magical Year-By-Year Journey today and was looking at the page for Fantasmic and I saw this quote "... a new interactive dining experience at the Disney-MGM Studios." talking about something the was being planned to open at the same time as Fantasmic. Can anyone guess what it is? Funny side note. In the book they also flipped the opening days park aerial shot of the Studios. Got to love those editors.

Fantasmic Dinner Package? I dunno...maybe they consider 50's Prime Time to be "interactive"

That interactive dining experience was probably referencing the David Copperfield Theme Restaurant that was supposed to be built in the Studios several years back.

Lilchippewa is right. It was David Copperfield's Magic Cafe. It still cracks me up to see that in there. From what I understand, he lost his funding. It would have been neat to have eaten there.

That's pretty close... Copperfield's Magic Underground. There were a bunch of problems from the start and Copperfield decided to end it all. The places were to be in Orlando, NYC and Chicago to start. Too much was getting out of his hands and into those of the greedy investors. I have done some work with him in tha past. He is like Disney in some ways, very picky about the details. He works to get things right no matter what or how long it may take. I need to go through my publicity photos I have of him and find the ones of MGM with him and Eisner there. Copperfield also has his hands in cement in front of the GMR.

And speaking of Maps... The new MGM map does not have the backlot on it...

No Cat Canyon, Res Street, Hunchback Theater. Just "Future Attraction Area"

There was even a "coming soon" sign at the entrance to MGM. So it must have been pretty far along.

Copperfield's crew was ready. They had all the materials ready to send there. NYC was about 40% built when the ended it all. I still have not found the photo of him and Eisner at MGM.

Copperfield captures some Disney magic
LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla. (AP) -- David Copperfield is hoping some of his magic rubs off on a planned restaurant near Disney's Magic Kingdom.
LateNite Magic Inc., a company formed earlier this year to develop restaurants based on the illusionist's act, has signed a deal to open Copperfield Magic Underground at Walt Disney World Resort in Orlando in early 1998.
"We are very pleased to have the master of illusion, David Copperfield, join with us to bring a spectacular new adventure to our guests," Michael Eisner, Disney chairman and chief executive, said Tuesday.
Copperfield and others formed LateNite in January to develop entertainment restaurants featuring stage magicians and roving performers.

Sep. 18--Construction crews on David Copperfield's magic-theme restaurant in Orlando have vanished -- at least temporarily.

Financial and technical problems with a similar restaurant in New York have delayed work there and at the site planned for Walt Disney World.

The Orlando restaurant now isn't expected to open before next fall -- three to six months later than originally planned, said Glen Tullman, vice chairman of LateNite Magic, the project's developer.

The only work done on the site, at the entrance to Disney-MGM Studios Theme Park, has been land clearing.

Further work is unlikely until January, Tullman said.

"The illusions are technically very difficult and they are costing a lot more ...

I'm sure there's some good joke I could come up with relating Copperfield to a dissapearing act but I'm too tired to think right now.
