Disney is building something being built between the entrance and exit of Muppets 3-D. No word on what it could be.

Right now, I've heard they're just redoing the outside facade for that portion of New York Street. As you'll see on the Rides in Rehab page, there is an ongoing rehab throughout the spring. :?

More news/rumors....

Quote

Okay you guys, I've tapped one of my sources concerning the work being done to New York Street...

Unfortunately I didn't get a lot of information from this one source, but I did get a heads up that the Backlot Theatre is being refurbished..

Soooo... maybe something new is coming there??

And...

Anyways... I've got some more tasty rumors for you... this is from a very VERY reliable and inside source of mine...

Rumor has it from this source that the Hunchback theatre is being gutted and removed...

Also a lot of other space in that region will be gone, including a lot of parking lot space that is currently not being used..

Eventually... says my source.... Backlot Tour will be removed and all of the space (think about all of that space including the small lake, residential street, AND Catastrophe Canyon) will be used for "high-end rides"...

One problem the park faces is the balance of the entire park... right now it is loaded heavily to the South East corner (Tower of Terror, and Rock N' Rollercoaster)... they want to stretch the density across the entire park...

Of course, all of that is MAJOR RUMOR... so take it with a grain of salt...

But as far as what is going on right now, my source also talked about another Stunt Show possibly making its way over to New York Street... OR perhaps a thrill ride of some nature.... one that would top Tower of Terror AND Rock n' Rollercoaster...

It seems to be two projects that are being done in tandem and the one project seems to have two parts. There seems to be the re-habing of the facades on New York Street, with one part of the re-hab being something that is not an attraction but will "dramatically change" the area.

The second project seems to be either re-habing in some way or replacing the Backlot theater.

There is an outside chance that all three of these may sort of work out to be part of one bigger project, but it at least seems from what I am hearing from CM's (one of whom is working closely with the non-attraction addition) that all three parts will have different time tables.

2004/2005 - Auto Stunt Show - Rumor - (5/14/03) Is the park planning on bringing the popular new Stunt show from Walt Disney Studios Paris to it’s Florida counterpart? That seems to be the popular rumor just starting to spread throughout the park. The latest word is that several construction markers have been seen on the grounds along the Residential Street area and CMs have been ordered to clear out the houses that are used as storage for the Osborne Lights to prepare for demolition to begin.

The Backlot Tour is a good way to see movie and TV props and is kinda what the MGM studios is all about? Is there any truth to the rumor that the Backlot Tour being removed???????? I hope not!!!!!!

At this point it's highly speculative....As far as rumors go, it's pretty low on how likely it will actually occur.

2004/2005 - Auto Stunt Show - Rumor - (5/16/03) Another source has confirmed to me that Disney is indeed planning on bringing the popular Stunt Show from WDS-Paris to MGM. Furthermore, they are working on repairing their damaged relationship with GM by pitching the show to them as a giant showcase for GM vehicles. The interesting thing to wonder is what effect this may have on the long-running Indiana Jones stunt show?

I hope this one is true. An auto stunt show would be something different than any show anywhere in WDW.

This from WDWMagic...

Quote

To coincide with the 50th Anniversary of Disneyland in 2005, there are several plans on the drawing board for WDW, ranging from area enhancements, through to new rides and shows. MGM's possible enhancements include the addition of the Motor Stunt Show from the Walt Disney Studios at Disneyland Paris Resort. The current planned location for the new show is the area close to Catastrophe Canyon.

There are currently construction walls around the old Hunchback Stage area and also around part of the back of New York Street and the backlot. While much of this work is rehab work on the facades, it is being speculated that preparation for the Motor Stunt Show is underway.

While the Stunt Show is definitely under serious consideration by Disney, please note that it has not be given the definite go ahead.

According to Screamscape :

Quote

A few more Screamscape sources have reported in this week to confirm that they were informed that the project has been approved and ground breaking will take place in the next few months. They went on to say that the Backlot Theater (old Hunchback showplace) will be torn out during this project and that the site will be incorporated into the new show.

Screamscape is notorious for rumors that never turn into anything but thought I'd mention it :?

From a better source....

Quote

A source of mine says that the Backlot Tour will be gone VERY soon... weeks to months... not sure if it is going to be gone completely, or re-routed though...

January seems to be a key month.. sounds like a lot of stuff is going to be moved by then, or during then... say goodbye to residential street and the "mini-boneyard."

So... it does sound like the car stunt show is going to be the new show, with a brand new arena somewhere around New York Street and Residential Street...

I think they should simply re-do the Backlot Tour. Keep the water tank portion, I find that alot of fun. Keep Catastrophe Canyon and just show some actual "movie magic" instead of residential street.
