I noticed during my last trip that some of the monorails were given slight paint changes. For example, on monorail lime, the blue section between the sets of automatic doors in each car was repainted to just white. I believe this was also done on either monorail pink or peach. Is there a reason this was done or could it just be cosmetic for a change?

I know Disney would love to extend them. The sad fact is they never will because when the companies found out Disney made them so popular they upped the price of them so much is was no where near economical for Disney to expand.

I heard it was going to be done in about 10 or 5 years.

There are no known plans that have been officially provided by Disney. At one point, there were bases for the new pylons in World Showcase for an extention to MGM. Though, they were removed because like all of the monorail track, they had to be inspected. If there were plans to extend it to MGM, I doubt they would have removed them.

Of course, we would all like to see them build new monorail lines but logistically it costs a lot of money to build such lines. Maybe one day they will be built but I’m not going to hold my breath waiting for them to be built.

I forget the cost they estimate now, but last I heard it was near $1 Million per mile or five miles. don't remember exactly.

Yes, and that's why it will be pretty far in the future to have them extended to the other parks :(

My understanding is that the price of $1 million per mile was the original cost, I am not sure of the cost today. Overall, the Disney monorail track at WDW is around 13 miles, meaning $13 million. The current Mark VIs cost $6 million each, so for the track they have now, they could buy two more Mark VIs (as of the early '90s).

No that is the current cost. :-(

When you look overall cost of stuff at Disney they should just go ahead and invest in the monorail. The put a budget for one ride ar $100 million... invest just 25% of that towards the monorail... to me it is worth it. But I know overall it is not worth it for the cost of other transportation.

But a brand spanking new ride/attraction can be marketed and bring in return visitors. For example, families on the fence about going to WDW for another trip could be easily swayed to go once they see an advertisement about a great new ride/attraction has opened at WDW.

A new monorail line just can't be marketed the same way. The final decision on building new monorail lines comes down to the bottom line. Disney may figure they might not recover back funds they spent to build the lines, thus, they just won't build the lines until it's absolutely necessary.

Maybe one day they will. It would be really nice anyways. They get more in busses for a mil then in a monorail.

The only people I can see it affecting are annual pass holders and Disney freaks, such as ourselves. Personally, I love the monorails, so I'd fly down just for that. With that said, most people wouldn't know about it, much less care. We often forget that most people know little about Disney World when they come, we know an amazing amount because we have come to love the place. We can only hope others will follow! :old2:
