I know, I know! I have heard that this place is a must miss. But I cant imagine that the burger is that bad, and I have always wanted to try it of the atmosphere. My wife is on board with it for the same reasons. Matt, I know you hate this place a little less than Rainforest Cafe (I totally agree with you there!) but want to give it a try. Any thoughts?

As long as you know you are there for the atmosphere and not the food, and are willing to pay for the atmosphere, I think you should be okay.

I like it there, but I love those old hokey film clips. The onion rings and ruben sandwich are very respectable.

I really enjoyed it. I personally think the food isn't the worst I've had and I thought the atmosphere was very nice.
Its also the most quiet place to eat since absolutely no one talks. I enjoyed my trip there so if you are into that kinda theme, I think you'd get a kick out of it.

I'm a BIG fan... And I actually did a price breakdown in another thread that shows you pay about $4 for the ambiance (for burger, fries, and coke)... WELL worth it, IMO!

If I were you, I'd go for milkshakes and fries as an afternoon snack (make a late dinner ADR somewhere else). That way, you can enjoy the ambiance and still have something to eat without overpaying.

I grew up on B movies, and we eat at the Sci-Fi every trip. I just love the atmosphere.

We've even started collecting the B movies that they show the trailers of.

While I agree that the food is just ok, I also feel it's one of those places everyone should experience at least once just for the decor and fun. If you decide to return, fine. If not, at least you've had a chance to check it out. I prefer the food a 50's Prime Time but do eat at Sci-Fi every so often....

That is one of the main reasons for making our ADR here. We have thought about going for many years and it always gets axed for something else. We are going for lunch and looking forward to a burger, some onion rings and a different atmosphere. Thanks everyone!

You should try every restaurant at WDW at least once. This way, you can form your own opinion and decide if it's worth a trip back someday.

On my first visit back in 1994, I was less than impressed with Sci Fi. On my most recent visit, I decided I was going to finish off the day in DHS, but found that the CS places were closed, so I decided to see if Sci Fi had any walk ups for one available. They did, so I tried it again. To my pleasant surprise, I thought the food (ribs) was better this time. I really enjoyed the atmosphere, especially the movie clips from some MST3K classics that took me back to watching MST3K until the wee hours of Saturday mornings in high school.

I try to avoid it at all costs! My daughter likes to go there and it is just below average food with very slow service. But we do get there about once a year. Fortunately my daughter agrees that we should eat somewhere that we could not at home. Thus we have and ADR for T-Rex in August. I just hope it looks really cool in there, because I expect the food and service to be similar.

One time, I went to Sci-Fi for dinner, and could not find any burger listing on the dinner menu. I mentioned this to my server, and she accommodated me with one. Just saying, for all you Sci-Fi naysayers.

Yeah, we went for dinner ONCE... but, when pressed, the waiter said we could order off the lunch menu.

As for Rainforest's quality... we don't have an issue with that around here... the food is like Friday's or Chili's or Tuesday's... but the cost is about 25% higher.

I love the Sci-Fi! I grew up with drive-ins and those classic B movies. I usually go for lunch, not dinner, and I find the burger/fries and cherry coke to be quite good. And paying extra for the atmosphere? totally worth it to me.

We love the Sci-fi...just made our ADR's for there in Sept We only go for lunch. I like the burgers but mostly I like that we all get a chance to relax and zone out for a while. It's sort of like a built in break from the park for a while & saves us from having to go back to the resort mid-day. The kids menu is good for my kids...which is difficult when they are both picky eaters...and they actually get something other than mac & cheese for once. The kids also laugh at all the clips. Again, not going so much for food, more for atmosphere.

We're also in the minority in that we do not like Prime Time! We have not had a good server there since I was in college which was, ahem, several years ago LOL The food to me tastes like anything we can get at a diner here at home.
