Here's what's going on in Disney's Hollywood Studios this week that you might not be able to tell based on this week's photo update.

  • Despite it being a Fantasmic! night, crowds seemed lower than usual, probably because of the lingering chance of rain. Word to the wise is if you're at Walt Disney World on a day when it's misty or sprinkling, grab your poncho and go to the parks to take advantage of lower waits for attractions.
  • I don't know why, but the ATM machine on the back of Keystone Clothiers is covered up for refurbishment work at least once a year.  I don't know why it needs to be fixed so often but it does and it's a mystery to me.
  • In addition to the Brazillian tour groups that...

News this week

The big news is dates for Star Wars Weekends 2011 have been announced!  Not much of a surprise but the speculation can end and we can start booking our trips.

There's been lots of criticism of the Pixar Pals Countdown to Fun! parade and now we're hearing Disney may be attempting to improve the parade somewhat.  Good luck.

The Brown Derby lost out to Mythos resturant at Universal Studios' Islands of Adventure but it was named a runner up along with Le Cellier in Epcot and Three Broomsticks in Islands of Adventure.

Yesterday I wrote about a margarita sampler I tried at the Hollywood Brown Derby restaurant and today I wanted to review the food we had there.  The Brown Derby has some really interesting offerings that are quite different from the usual theme park fare.

For an appetizer, I wanted to try something different that I'd never had before and I settled on the squash soup.  It sounded interesting and the waiter recommended it so I figured I'd give it a try.

The squash soup was surprisingly very good. It had a flavor that reminded me...

George Lucas took a visit to Disneyland to check out the progress of Star Tours: The Adventures Continue.  The attraction is being developed in tandem in Disneyland as well as at Disney's Hollywood Studios.  What's of interest more than anything is that there's photo showing what appears to be the cockpit of the Starspeeder 1000, piloted by none other than C-3PO.

According to the posting on the official Disney...

Last night I met a good friend of mine for dinner at the Hollywood Brown Derby.  In addition to catching up with each other, I used this opportunity to sample something I'd always wanted to try at the Brown Derby, one of their drink samplers.

The Hollywood Brown Derby has a number of drink samplers named after the Citizens of Hollywood found nearby.  It's a great use of synergy to take drinks that might ordinarily not be that exciting and give them a Disney World touch.

The Orlando Sentinel is reporting that it has reports from Cast Members in the Pixar Pals Countdown to Fun! parade that Mr. Potato Head and Smitty, a fuzzy worker monster from "Monsters Inc.," would be joining the highly criticized parade.

If true, the decision to add characters could be a signal that Disney is trying to do something to answer the steady flow of negative reviews that have arisen since the parade debuted last month.

In the short...
