Hollywood Studios Blog

"All of Hollywood Studios that's fit to print"

I'm back... but reluctantly so! I'm never ready for a WDW trip to end. We had absolutely gorgeous weather for the first half of the week. No humidity at all. Then, on Thursday, it became uncomfortably hot, and it made us remember why we like our winter trips better!
Since my last post before I left was about my top 10 must-dos in Hollywood Studios, I thought I'd report back on which ones happened, and which did not, and what I thought of the ones that did!
10.Eating a Toluca Leg at Toluca Legs Turkey Co. on Sunset Boulevard. -- Sadly, my husband did not get to eat one this trip. The heat was intense on our day in the Studios and my 2 year-old daughter's patience was running out after a busy morning. We opted to head back to the resort for lunch there. I guess he will have to wait until September to sink his teeth into one of these again!

We're hearing that on April 6, the maligned Pixar Pals Countdown to Fun! parade will change direction.  The parade will instead start near Star Tours, flow past Echo Lake, take a right turn at the Sorcerer's Hat and finish up down Hollywood Boulevard.

Tests have already been conducted and rehearsals are scheduled for the new route.  The rumored reasoning behind the change to interefere less with the upcoming mega opening of Star Tours 2, which will be...

Earlier this month Disney executives responded to some of the criticism surrounding the new Pixar Pals Countdown to Fun! parade by annoucning new characters would be added to the parade to improve it.

Today, two new characters made their debut in the parade: Mr. Potato Head from Toy Story and Smitty, a worker monster from Monsters Inc.

Ever since Disney Hollywood Studios's newest parade, Pixar Pals Countdown to Fun! debuted and was met with a less than a lackluster response from guests, I have often joked that the following video is my favorite parade that is currently running in the Studios:

Okay, that may be a little harsh. but it is a good segway into this week's topic! The reason the Citizens of Hollywood were "parading" out was because they were starting their pre-show for the parade, which is currently on it's way. They create a sort of variety radio broadcast that can be heard...

Today the new parade Pixar Pals Countdown to Fun! launched at Disney's Hollywood Studios, replacing Block Party Bash. Still Pixar-themed, the parade now incorporates some of the company's newer films such as Ratatouille and Up along with the classics Toy Story, A Bug's Life, Monsters Inc. and The Incredibles. Unlike the previous highly interactive Block Party Bash, "Pixar Pals" is the conventional style of parade- a series of floats and characters steadily moving along a route.

While the parade is only one day out of the gate and just getting started, it has...

On New Year's Day 2011, one of my favorite parts of Disney's Hollywood Studios came to a close. Block Party Bash ran for almost three years after transferring from Disney's California Adventure park on the West Coast to Walt Disney World over the Winter of 2008.

Normally I wouldn't be caught dead at a parade. For me, parades and fireworks were always a good time to hit attractions while everyone else had stopped to wave at the Fab Five. But Block Party Bash was different for me. For those who know me, it could always be the fact that the parade was preceded by *MY* favorite characters: The Citizens of Hollywood, performing a pre-parade radio show all down Hollywood Boulevard. But I think what always drew me in every time was it's...

On this date in 1992, Aladdin's Royal Caravan parade made its debut at the Disney-MGM Studios and while that parade wasn't the pinnacle of Disney parades, it was part of a trend that separated parades in the Studios from the parades in the other DIsney parks.

Thanks to FlickRiver for this old photo

Aladdin's Royal Caravan was a parade that coincided with the theatrical release of the film Aladdin, which opened in theaters a few weeks earlier on November 25, 1992.  The timing of the parade, however, was no coincidence. The parade was really an extension of the marketing plan for the film and it...
